Summary:
Improvement of the filter functionality to keep applied filters (e.g. tags) in a project even if the filter sidebar is closed. This improvement aims to optimise screen space, especially for users with small screens, while at the same time highlighting the active filters with a prominent notice at the top of the screen.

Problem:
When a user in MeisterTask applies a filter in a project via the filter sidebar and then closes this sidebar, all set filters are removed, and the project view shows all elements again without taking the previously applied filters into account. This behaviour forces users to keep the filter sidebar open to maintain the filtered view, significantly reducing the available space for the project content, which is particularly problematic on small screens.

Suggested solution:

  1. Active filters when sidebar is closed: Allow filters to remain active and effective even when the sidebar is closed. This change would allow users to use the entire screen for project management and still benefit from the filtered views.
  2. Visual indicator for active filters: Introduce a noticeable and easily recognisable hint or indicator at the top of the screen. This visual indicator would alert users that the filters are currently applied to the project view so that there is no confusion as to why certain tasks or items are not visible. The display could include a summary of the active filters and an option to quickly clear them if required.

Advantages:

  • Improved usability: Improves usability on smaller screens by maximising the available display area for project tasks and information.
  • Increased efficiency: Allows users to work in a filtered view without having to keep the sidebar open, resulting in a clearer interface and faster navigation.
  • Clear communication: The proposed visual indicator ensures that users always know which filters are active to avoid confusion and manage projects more effectively.

Implementation notes:

  • The development team should ensure that the visual indicator is eye-catching but not intrusive and fits seamlessly into the existing UI/UX design of MeisterTask.
  • Consideration should be given to how users can interact with the active filters when the sidebar is closed, e.g. by changing or deleting the filters directly from the visual indicator.

This feature request aims to address an important usability issue to make project management more efficient and user-friendly, especially for those working on devices with limited screen space.

Best, Joerg 😉

    Hi Cornelia ??

First time created by AI. Have to make some little adjustments yet, to shorten the outputs a bit.

But, I think it is a good first automated feature request, based on just some core information. I will shorten this feature request as soon as possible too ?

    Best, Jörg
