Searchable Custom Fields

It would be very handy if you could search all tasks for entries only in a specified field i.e. via "fieldname:searchstring" or a filter option on the sidebar.

We use abbreviations in some fields, so if we search all tasks with these we often get too many results, when those abbreviations appear in other comments or fields by chance.

If there is such an option already and I haven't found it, feel free to enlighten me :)

have you tried using the reports feature for this? For example, you could search there for all tasks with a tag.

unfortunately, the reports feauture doesn't offer the option to filter by values of a custom field as far as I can see. Searching by tag doesn't really help in our specific case, as the information I would most often search for is stored in a field and using tags wouldn't be practical.
