Name connections

Really simple feature request. You see that green connection? I would love to be able to name it with text displayed on top, maybe along the curve of the connection as well (or on a horizontal line like just another node) - or maybe if the cursor hovers over?

Why Describing Connections Between Nodes is Helpful in a Mind Map

The ability to describe why two nodes are connected adds a crucial layer of context and meaning to the mind map. Without this, a line between two ideas only shows that there is a relationship—not what that relationship is.

In my case, adding descriptions helps me:

  • Clarify my thought process: I can capture the reason behind making a connection, such as whether it's a cause-effect link, a shared theme, a contrast, or a prerequisite.
  • Make the map more readable later: When I revisit the mind map days or weeks later, I can quickly understand what I was thinking, instead of having to guess or rely on memory.
  • Reflect complexity: Real-world ideas often don’t fit into a strict hierarchy. Being able to label connections helps express nuanced or cross-cutting relationships.
  • Communicate better with others: If someone else is looking at the mind map, they’ll understand the logic and depth behind my connections without needing me to explain each one verbally.

Think of it like annotating a roadmap—not just drawing roads between cities, but also writing why those roads exist (e.g., trade, tourism, migration). The same goes for ideas in a mind map.

This would also allow the creation of flowcharts much more easily in the current build of mindmaps.

If connections also had bezier curve functionality, they (and the proposed text on top) would look even more clean.

Warm regards

    Hi @theo west ,

I think something similar already exists. Have you tried using a label for this yet? You can find out more about labels here.
