How do I add a carriage return in a topic?

I can take several lines from Notepad, cut and paste into a topic within my mindmap and it will keep the formatting. That is, I get several lines of text within the topic. I've tried a couple things to manually add two or three lines in a topic and haven't stumbled upon the right keystrokes. For instance, "enter" just takes me outside of the text instead of moving to a new line.
