How can I import tasks into an existing project on the Free plan?

Hi,

I need to create a bunch of Tasks for 2025. When we started using Meister I created our 2024 Tasks by doing an import. I assumed that for 2025 I'd be able to do the same thing. However, when I do the import, it creates a new Project which is NOT what I want. How can I import a CSV into an existing project?

If that's not possible, what other solutions are there? Can I create a new project and then merge it into the existing one? Can I use some other method of creating tasks? I can't create 50-100 tasks by hand. That would take forever.

Thanks.

    Hi @Mike B 👋🙂

MeisterTask does not currently support importing tasks from a CSV file directly into an existing project. The CSV import function is designed to create a new project with the imported tasks.

To integrate tasks from a CSV file into an existing project, you can follow these steps:

Import the CSV file as a new project:

    • On your MeisterTask dashboard, click on the (+) button next to “Projects”.
    • Select Import from the drop-down menu.
    • Select the CSV option.
    • Browse for your CSV file and click Next.
    • This will create a new project containing the tasks from your CSV file.

To move tasks into existing project:

    • Open the newly created project
    • Select the tasks you want to move.
    • Click the three-dot menu (⋯) and select “Move to project”.
    • Select your existing project as the destination.

Please note that this process requires manual intervention to transfer tasks from the new project to your existing project.

If you'd like to see a related feature implemented in MeisterTask, feel free to write a feature request.

    Best, Jörg

Well, that's just dumb. If I specify a Project Name in my csv file, and that project already exists, your system should be smart enough to put the tasks into the existing project.

So, now I have two questions.

    1. Do the above steps work if I'm on the Free plan and already have 3 projects? Will it let me create a 4th project, move things to the proper project, and then get rid of the extra project?
    2. Is there a way to select multiple tasks at once to move them or does it have to be done one-by-one? I create one task for every week, 52 tasks, and if I have to go through multiple steps for each one, that's not a very good work-around.

Hi Mike, first of all…I'm not a member of the Meister-Team 😉

    1. As a free basic user with 3 projects available, you can archive one of your projects, import the new one with all the tasks for further processing. After that, you can delete the imported one and get the archived project back.
    2. Please have a look at this link. There you'll see how to select multiple tasks for transferring.

Btw: Using a free software has, of course, limitations. I think we can all be happy that developers like Meister are this generous to make MeisterTask available for free with lots of cool free features.
