Old vs New redactor
Hello! I have been using the paid version of your product on a daily basis for about 10 years. I mainly take notes from lectures, training courses and books. I liked the simple and concise look of the old editor. That is why I did not want to switch to the new editor. Today I discovered that all my maps open only in the new editor. And no one warned me about this.
First, I discovered that some maps have lost the formatting that they had in the old editor. I highlighted some ideas in bold. Some I highlighted in a different color. Now it is all written in the same font and color. And we are talking about a large map with about 5000 topics. Restoring the formatting of just one such map will take a whole day.
Second, I discovered that large maps that worked quickly in the old editor are terribly slow in the new editor. One of the most frequent actions that I perform is highlighting a topic in bold using the Command B hotkeys. In all the old maps, this happened instantly. In the new editor, in a large map, after highlighting in bold, the map freezes for 30 seconds. And every time. Highlighted in bold, waited 30 seconds and only then can you continue working. In smaller maps, it is about 5 seconds. Which is also very inconvenient. It has completely stopped my work! Instead of continuing to work, I have been sitting for several hours and thinking what to do with it!
Why are you imposing a new editor on all your clients? The new editor is only suitable for some clients who make small maps for visualization and color them. But you also have another part of your clients who use maps to store and structure large amounts of information - lectures, books, training courses. The fast and simple old editor was perfect for these purposes. And the new editor is completely unsuitable!
Please forward my request to your management. To the one who is engaged in the development and development of the product. Because their vision of the product differs from the real needs of clients, which I and many others are. For whom Mindmeister is not just an analogue of PowerPoint. But a means for taking notes, structuring and storing large amounts of information.

Hi @Ivan T ,
thank you for your feedback! As someone who also relies on mind maps for courses as well, I completely understand how important they are to your daily work. It’s clear you’ve been a dedicated user for many years, and I truly appreciate the trust you’ve placed in MindMeister to support your workflow.
I wanted to clarify that the MindMeister team sent two emails regarding the transition, one initial announcement and a follow-up reminder. I’ve checked, and your email address was included in those mailings, but it’s possible they may have ended up in your spam folder.
Regarding the formatting issue, I understand how challenging it must be to lose the custom styling, especially on a large map with 5000 topics. Unfortunately, maps of that size can also impact performance in the new editor. While the technical limit is 10,000 topics, we recommend keeping maps under 2000 topics for the best experience. Larger maps often perform slower, and I can see how this would disrupt your workflow.
As for why we made this change: discontinuing the old editor allows us to focus on improving the new one, which is already used by 99% of our customers. This helps us deliver updates and features more efficiently. That said, I completely understand your perspective, and I will make sure your feedback is shared with our product team.
