Simple tasks

I appreciate the feature where tasks can be assigned to users and deadlines can be created but I would appreciate the simple check box that would indicate if it is done or not as it used to be until 2(?) years ago.
My workaround is to paste ":task_5:" into each completed node to get the same appearance and it is far from the ideal experience.
