What's the difference between user and collaborator? Help me choose a plan!

Hello. I would like to know more about plans and I have some questions. If anyone could help me, it would be appreciated.

I was thinking about getting the Personal Plan, because it has the function "Share mind maps" and "Unlimited Map Collaborators". I would like to have a few mind maps that I create and mainly use, but I also want a community of mine to also be able to edit them from time to time in order to contribute.

Looking at prices, I see that it says "All prices per user", therefore my question is what is the difference between a user and a collaborator ( from Unlimited Map Collaborators, as Basic Plan says).

Thanks for any helpful response!

    Hi @MeDavid,

you're talking about differences between "user" and "collaborator", but I can't find any information about what you mean. The word "user" is only used under the pricing table:

And of course, every user has to pay for his own desired licence. But, this has nothing to do with collaborators, that you want to work on your mind maps with.

As a basic user, you can create a maximum of three mind maps…and you can collaborate with unlimited collaborators like shown in this picture:

Please have a look at the basic plan on the left-hand side. You see the checkmark at Unlimited Map Collaborators. The personal plan includes all features of the basic plan and is supplemented with the listed features of the personal plan.

There is no difference between the word users and collaborators related to the collaboration, because they have a completely different meaning in context of the website 😉

    Conclusion:

The word user is only related to the pricing of what plan you "as a single user" want to choose. And collaboration is, regardless of which plan you choose, possible with everyone you like to collaborate with. Even if the other person has chosen the basic plan. The only limitation with regard to your question is the number of available mind maps:

So, if you choose the personal plan, you have access to unlimited mind maps. And if a person (user) you collaborate with has chosen a basic plan, the limitation for that "user" is three mind maps.

Hi @MeDavid, nice to have you in the community and also thank you @Joerg Koper for the detailed explanation!

I just wanted to jump on here and highlight, that the main criteria you should consider when deciding between the basic and the personal plan is the number of mind maps you and your community would like to work on. If each one of you would like to create and collaborate on more than three mind maps, you should consider the personal plan for these users. Hope that makes it clearer :)

    Best,
    Marlene

Hi @MeDavid and welcome to the community 👋🙂

One of the main difference between the basic and personal plan is the number of mind maps:

While you have a limitation of three mind maps in the free basic plan, you have unlimited mind maps in the personal plan.

Beside the difference between the available number of mind maps, you should also have a look at these marked points:

The option to share your mind maps is given in all types of the pricing plans:

I hope, I could help to make the differences of the two pricing plans a bit clearer.

Thanks for the answer, but it's not exactly what I was looking for. I was asking about the difference between a user and a collaborator. Because I want to have a lot of collaborators on my mind maps. Would all those collaborators be counted as users ( using the Personal Plan for example), and I would have to pay 6EUR/month for every person that contributes to my mind maps?

Thanks a lot for the clarification.
